Guide to Renting a Van or Truck

Size does matter!

The size of the Van or Truck to move your house contents is very important. Too big and it could cost more to rent and operate. On the other hand, a Van or Truck that is too small will limit how much you can carry and possibly require more than one trip. To determine the correct size of truck or van for your job, ask for recommendations from our experienced sales team.

How many days should I rent the truck for?

The truck rental company will need to know how long you will need the Van or Truck for; when will you pick it up and and when it will be returned. Plan ahead and know how long it will take you to pack the truck, drive to the new location, unpack the truck and return it to the rental company.

Moving Accessories

Keep things simple! If you require some moving aids, try to buy them from the truck rental company – it’ll save you time!

Consider buying Bubble Wrap from the truck rental company so that you can pack your belongings in a secure and damage-free manner. Bubble Wrap is similar to large thick blankets and will protect furniture from being scratched and hold items in place during the journey. Most times the truck rental company is only too glad sell you these important extras.

Have Your Documents in Order

On the day you pick up the Van or Truck, review all your personal documentation and ensure that nothing is amiss. Try to do this before you arrive, so your rental is processed smoothly and quickly. Documentation that is not in order such as, an expired credit card or invalid insurance, could delay the proceedings or hamper your efforts to get going.

Check that your driving license permits you to drive the Hire Vehicle

It’s important  you consider your Class of Driving License before hiring a Van or Truck. In many cases your regular driver’s licence (Class B) is sufficient to drive a small to large size moving Van or Truck such as a Citroen Relay Van or the Mini Mover – Transit Luton. It’s worth noting that these vehicles are very different to driving a car. Be sure that you are capable of driving the Truck or Van before hitting the road.

In short, with any move, it’s most important to plan ahead and be organised. Using a reliable Van or Truck rental service will be crucial.

On the day of your move, it’s very likely that you’ll  find yourself under pressure so be prepared and make a checklist in advance!

Other Considerations

On the day of your rental, feel free to take advantage of our ample free parking space where you can leave your car when you pick up your van or truck. Customer vehicles are parked at their own risk.

Customer Reviews

"Rented a Renault Master to help with a house contents move. Super vehicle and great guys to deal with at the Ballycoolin office. Really good value too, but I'd recommend National because of the service you get - first class."
